Bonjour! Fashion week is wrapping up this week in Paris, so naturally we have our opinions!
Phoebe Philo, of Celine, showed off a different side of her design skills this season. Previously known as the designer of all things minimalist- she proved to all of us this season that she isn't afraid to play with shape and proportion. This season, Celine presented fluid materials mixed with impeccably structured silks (see above). The 1940's and 1950's influence was present throughout the show with peplums and nipped waists. Phoebe did give a nod to her minimalistic roots by showing a collection devoid of prints.

Full disclosure- I have been an obsessive Chanel fan since I picked up my first fashion magazine. It goes without saying that every year, I anxiously await the Chanel show. This season, I was not disappointed, but I was surprised. Karl Lagerfield, who has been designing for decades, chose to take the traditional Chanel look (i.e. tweed suits) out of the major portion of the collection. Instead, we saw flowing fabrics and a healthy mix of dresses, tops and even swim suits. The show was a oceanic theme- which seemed to be a common choice for designers this season. Other under the sea themes were seen at Versace, Marchesa, Christian Cota, and Christian Siriano. The theme may not have been completely original, but Chanel's garments always stand out from the crowd.
Balenciaga designer, Nicolas Ghesquière, put on quite a show this season in Paris. Silhouettes stole the show with exaggerated A-line dresses cinched at the waist. The color story was quite interesting with a mix of pastels, metallic silver and black accents throughout- some of the black accents even zipped off. Denim even made an appearance although the high-waisted pleated pants were not your run of the mill denim look.
